How we test and rank
VibeEngine ranks the best tools for each job, not every tool that exists. Today, scores come only from public, verifiable evidence, gathered automatically by a script and stored with sources and dates. Hands-on testing is coming and will be added to the rubric.
Evidence rubric (100 points)
- Free tier (20): a usable free plan, checked against the vendor pricing page
- Pricing clarity (15): prices published on a public pricing page
- Docs quality (20): public docs or help centre found
- Platform support (15): platforms named on the official site (web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, API), 5 points each up to 3
- Open source (15): public repository with an open licence
- Recent updates (15): a public changelog, or GitHub commits in the last 30 days (8 points within 180 days)
Some sites block automated checks. We never guess: unverifiable criteria are excluded, and the score is points earned divided by points we could verify. Tools with fewer than 60 verifiable points show “insufficient evidence” instead of a score. Every tool page lists the evidence, the points and the source links.
Picks
Top 3 = highest evidence scores. Budget pick = best tool with a usable free tier. Local pick = best open-source / runs-on-your-PC option.
Status
Evidence is refreshed by running python scripts/evidence.py.
Sponsorship
Sponsors can buy labelled placements. Sponsorship never changes scores or rankings.
